Beer Week kicks off today, and it is looking like we’re at nearly 400 events! Let’s find a ride, and get to a rundown of the events happening today:

This morning, Stone kicked things off with the Rare Beer Breakfast. By the time you read this, it’ll be too late to get there, but with a jazz band and 40 beers to choose from, along with a buffet breakfast, I’m sure the event was nothing short of fantastic.

If you want more fun with Stone, they are taking over the Sheraton San Diego with their Total Tap Takeover! Blind Lady Alehouse has an Automatic Brewing Co. showcase and is open early for lunch with a keep the glass event. There are also plenty of additional specials and events going on throughout the day at places like Oggi’s, Ballast Point/Homebrew Mart, Home Brews and Gardens, and more.

But wait, there’s more! Starting at 4:00, Ballast Point has a food pairing with Dave DeJour, and Holiday Wine Cellar is hosting Iron Fist Brewing Company, a new craft brewer in North County. At 5:00, O’Brien’s has the Night of a Million illion Speedways! 9 varieties of Speedway Stout are available for your enjoyment, including house roasted coffee and Kopi Luwak coffee. Yum? I think so.

Downtown Johnny Browns is having their barrel aged night and the list looks nothing short of great. You can meet Mitch Steele of Stone, Colby Chandler of Ballast Point, and Kelsey McNair of North Park Beer Co. at Ballast Point in Linda Vista, drink beer from Maui Brewing Company at the Neighborhood, or choose from two casks and a number of drafts from Karl Strauss at Hamilton’s Tavern. The Imperial Porter with vanilla sounds like a good bet.

The list goes on and on and on and on. There is no shortage of good times tonight. For a full list, check out http://sdbw.org/events/

~AWARD-WINNING CRAFT BREWING CITY TO HOST HUNDREDS OF EVENTS INCLUDING TWO OFFICIAL SAN DIEGO BEER GUILD CELEBRATIONS ~

_____________________________________________________________

San Diego, CA (September 2010) – Building off the success of the first San Diego Beer Week in 2009, the San Diego Brewers Guild is preparing for San Diego Beer Week 2010 (SDBW), November 5- 14. San Diego Beer Week is a ten-day celebration inspiring people to drink local, craft beer and promoting San Diego’s thriving brewing culture with more than 300 events happening across the county. San Diego Beer Week will kick off with the Brewers Guild Festival on November 6 and conclude with the Beer Garden – Chef Celebration of San Diego Beer, a gourmet beer and food- pairing event, on November 14. More about the two official San Diego Brewers Guild sponsored events:

San Diego Brewers Guild Festival- Saturday, November 6

The kick-off for San Diego Beer Week 2010 will take place in Liberty Station on Saturday, November 6 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The general admission price is $35 for 10 tastes from San Diego’s top breweries, along with food and live music. For the true brew aficionado, there will be a VIP session, which begins at noon before the general admission in which guests can meet with the brewers and try exclusive beer tasters for a $50 ticket and stay through the rest of the event.

Beer Garden- Sunday, November 14

The Lodge at Torrey Pines will play host to the closing event for the 2nd Annual San Diego Beer Week on Sunday, November 14. Beer Garden will be an outdoor, open-air setting with twelve breweries and over twenty-four of San Diego’s top chefs pairing great San Diego beer and amazing local food. The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and tickets are $65.

-more-San Diego is home to more than 35 brew houses and has gained an international reputation for brewing award-winning beers. The city’s breweries recently brought home more medals at the 2010 World Beer Cup than the traditional beer countries of England, Germany, and Belgium combined and won 15 medals at the Great American Beer Festival this September. With the popularity of craft beer on the rise, San Diego is poised to be the capital of craft beer tourism in the United States.

SDBW’s inaugural year included more than 300 events spread across San Diego County with an estimated attendance of 20,000 people. Events ranged from specialty beer dinners to beer and cheese pairings to meet and greets with local brewers. For a $50 registration fee, restaurants, bars, and businesses can log on to SDBW.org to register their Beer Week event.

“Our goal is to create a variety of events to engage all levels of craft beer drinkers,” says Adam Carbonell, president of San Diego Brewers Guild. “If you’re new to craft beer you can check out a local pint night or take a brewery tour, and if you’re more seasoned you might enjoy a sour ales night or beer and chocolate tasting.”

“San Diego Beer Week is a great opportunity for our city to position itself as the number one beer tourism destination,” says Carbonell. San Diego Beer Week has partnered with several San Diego hotels to work out special room rates and Beer Week travel packages.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAN DIEGO GETS READY FOR 2ND ANNUAL BEER WEEK

San Diego, CA – May 25, 2010

Building off the success of the first San Diego Beer Week, the San Diego Brewers Guild is preparing for SDBW 2010, November 5-14, 2010. San Diego Beer Week is a ten-day celebration inspiring people to drink local, craft beer and promoting San Diego’s thriving brewing culture. San Diego Beer Week will kick off with the Brewers Guild Festival and conclude with the Chef Celebration of San Diego Beer, a gourmet beer and food pairing event.

San Diego is home to more than 35 brewhouses and has gained an international reputation for brewing inspired beers. The city recently brought home more medals at the 2010 World Beer Cup than the traditional beer countries of England, Germany, and Belgium combined. With the popularity of craft beer on the rise, San Diego is poised to be the capital of beer tourism in the United States.

San Diego Beer Week’s inaugural year included more than 300 events spread across San Diego County with an estimated attendance of 20,000 people. Events ranged from specialty beer dinners to beer and cheese pairings to meet and greets with local brewers. “Our goal is to create a variety of events to engage all levels of craft beer drinkers,” says Adam Carbonell, president, San Diego Brewers Guild. “If you’re new to craft beer you can check out a local pint night or take a brewery tour, and if you’re more seasoned you might enjoy a sour ales night or beer and chocolate tasting.”

To set the stage for SDBW 2010, the Brewers Guild is hosting a three-day preview weekend June 11-13, 2010. The capstone event of SDBW’end is a high end beer dinner at the Lodge at Torrey Pines featuring six local chefs pairing their food with six award winning local breweries. In addition to the Lodge Dinner, breweries across town will host their own events like specialty cask nights, beer-to-go specials, and brewery tours to offer a sneak peek of what’s to come during Beer Week in November.

“San Diego Beer Week is a great opportunity for our city to position itself as the number one beer tourism destination,” says Carbonell. San Diego Beer Week has partnered with several San Diego hotels to work out special room rates and Beer Week travel packages. “San Diego is a great place to visit and in November we’ve still got beautiful weather. Add Beer Week on top of that and there’s no reason not to visit!”

San Diego Beer Week is taking place Friday November 5th through Sunday November 14th, 2010 throughout the county, with new events posted frequently on the official website. For general information about San Diego Beer Week including complete event listings, sponsors, public transportation, and accommodations, visit SDBW.org
